Emmanuel Sunday Obanigba, a 64-year-old man, is currently fighting a big battle for his life.

Diagnosed with heart disease and gastric ulcer that is gradually affecting his kidney, Emmanuel requires about N10 million to undergo a surgery to rescue his fast deteriorating health.

The father of six, who can no longer perform his duties as father, husband and head of the family, has already lost his job as a result of the ailment.

His wife, Virginia Obanigba, a petty trader, said she has been running from pillar to post in an effort to cater for the family.

“My husband lost his job as a result of this ailment, and we have spent all he had saved just to ensure that he gets well. Our efforts have not really yielded any positive result, as his situation keeps deteriorating,” she said.

She recalled that Emmanuel’s predicament started in February 2015 when he developed typhoid fever.

“I took him to the hospital where several tests were run on him and the treatment commenced, but my husband did not get better and medical bills were accumulating. My husband has been discharged from the hospital because we could no longer afford to pay the bills. At the moment, he is equally having partial paralysis.

“Initially, we went to three private hospitals, and we also went to Igando General Hospital, Lagos and Ota General Hospital in Ogun State.

“I am crying because we have been in this trouble since 2015, and it is God that has been sustaining us. We cannot afford dialysis or even pay for the drugs and treatment because there is no money. We are from Edo State. I have been living with fear because my husband now breathes with difficulty.

“Now, we are financially drained and I need to take my husband back to the hospital We don’t have the money to do so and he cannot even walk because the ailment has affected him badly. He’s now partially paralysed.

“We are left with no option than to appeal for funds from well-meaning Nigerians, public and private organisations, as well as humanitarian groups to save his life so that he can go for surgery,” the woman said as tears freely dropped from her face.
