To do business today, you need more than guts and gumption. You need the willingness to look beyond the outcomes and focus on the positives. Many people don’t understand this, and it leads to problems in the future. Veteran businessman Bob Myers talks about what it means to stay positive as an entrepreneur.
Myers is the former CEO of Pillar Technology, LLC, which he sold to Accenture in December 2020. He is currently the chairman of a new company he has founded – SKYL LLC. Myers ran Pillar Technology for two decades and changed many lives with his business-savvy and positive approach to work. The same drive and ambition are now going behind SKYL LLC, his new venture, which is about bringing startup, entrepreneur as well as intrapreneur business ideas into the world. “We like to hire people with a creative bend. This way, they might be willing to learn new ideas and will also be open to change as needed for the business. While we do take on staff directly from colleges, universities, or companies, we don’t mind hiring other people who with an innovative bend, because as an entrepreneur you have to be open to all possibilities,” says Myers.
Positivity is key here, Myers believes. Overthinking can be the death of a business idea. Adapting a no-holds-barred policy can de-limit a lot of problems that entrepreneurs can face. “There are no bad ideas. You can find a market for success anywhere, but you have to look. In this case, to fail is to learn, and learning is a must-have experience for entrepreneurs.”
“Becoming an entrepreneur is not for the faint-hearted. If you think defensively from the get-go, you will not even start working. Instead, try to have a positive mindset,” said Bob Myers.
