A group, Global Great Debaters Nigeria, has condemned the spate of insecurity in the country especially in the South East region and called on stakeshokders in the region to rise to the occasion before situation goes beyond remedy.
The group insisted that the escalation of violence and agents of destabilization in different parts of Nigeria were occasioned by the lack of attention to dialogue and peace process in the country.
Convener of the group Mr. Uchechukwu Agbo, states this in Abakaliki during a workshop organized by the group to deepen dialogue, critical thinking and debate among the people.
The training workshop was organized in partnership with Ebonyi News Network, Southern Methodist University, Adesso Development Initiative, Royal Rhetorics and Coal City University, Enugu.
Speaking during the event, the lead trainer at the bootcamp, Prof. Ben Voth, reiterated the need for concerted effort to be made towards increasing the culture of critical thinking across the globe.
He explained  that debate, as a communicative tool, is relevant in every level of education because it  encourages critical thinking, which he said is the basic foundation for productive socio-political engagement in any country that accords priority in Education.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Coal City University,Prof. Afam Icha-Ituma, congratulated the participants and facilitators for summoning  courage to attend the event despite the current spate of insecurity bedevilling Nigeria.
Prof.Ituma stressed that the event
couldn’t have come at a better time than now  when the country is in dire need need of dialogue and  conversations that are geared towards peace,unity and national cohesion.
