From Segun Olatunji, Abeokuta

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State yesterday disowned the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee.

The faction led by Chief Bayo Dayo, which is believed to be loyal to  the senator representing Ogun East, Prince Buruji Kashamu, said the sacked national chairman, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff, remains the opposition party’s helmsman.

Sheriff was last Saturday at the PDP National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, removed from office and  the Makarfi-led caretaker committee set up to oversee the affairs of the party until another national convention is conducted to elect a new chairman.

But the Ogun PDP faction in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Adeniji in Abeokuta, described the setting up of a caretaker committee as illegal and alien to the PDP constitution.

While condemning the governors of the party over their role in the sacking of Sheriff, the state chapter argued that in deference to a court order stopping the convention, Sheriff had in his capacity as the national chairman called for its cancellation.
