Following the shift in election dates, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, will today, Tuesday, February 19, brief heads of diplomatic missions and international organisations accredited to monitor the elections about the preparation for the polls.

Recall that INEC had in the wee hours of Saturday, February 16, postponed the presidential and National Assembly elections, including the governorship and state Assembly elections.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement by its spokesperson, George Ehidiamen Edokpa, said:

“The Hon Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu will on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, brief Heads of Diplomatic Missions and International Organisations accredited to monitor the conduct of the presidential and National Assembly elections that have been re-scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

“All the Heads of Diplomatic Missions and International Organisations, diplomatic correspondents and international media accredited to cover the general elections in the country are expected to be seated at 9.45am.”
