THE quest by a middle-aged man identified as Francis Kanyare-ere to enjoy the harmattan breeze has led to his tragic end after he was attacked and bitten by a cobra.
The incident occurred at Bomadi town in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.
Kanyare-ere who hailed from Torugbene community in Burutu Local Government Area of the state, was said to have been attacked by the snake at about 8am on Monday in front of his house opposite the GRA of Bomadi town.
He was said o be relaxing and enjoying the evening harmattan breeze when the snake appeared from nowhere and struck before crawling into his living room.
A community source said the snake was later found and killed by members of the victim’s family and neighbours who immediately rushed into the house after they were alerted by his agonizing scream.
The source said the neighbours applied a traditional antidote to snake venom on the victim and was later taken to a hospital in the area for medical attention as his situation worsened.
According to the source, a medical staff that examined the victim said the hospital does not have antidote to the venom, and that he was being taken to a traditional medical centre in the community in the early hours of Tuesday when he gave up the ghost.
She said the body of the deceased had been deposited in the mortuary of a hospital in the community, describing the incident as the first of its kind in the area.
