Siemens Energy Nigeria has donated N70million Digital Engineering Laboratory to the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, to enhance the learning process of staff and students.  
The modern digital engineering laboratory is equipped with a state-of-the-art facility and is sited at the Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department in the Faculty of Engineering of UNILAG.
The commissioning of the digital laboratory engineering attracted UNILAG Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, his management team, the Managing Director of Siemens Energy, Mr. Seun Suleiman, and also his top management staff.
Commissioning the digital laboratory, the MD of Siemens Energy, Mr. Suleiman, said the project was sited at UNILAG because it is at the center of Nigeria’s commercial activities.
Suleiman said N50million was spent on the digital laboratory, which would be used to train staff and students in the department, adding, “we have ordered software worth N20million to support the project.”
He disclosed that the digital engineering laboratory would further enhance the future of the lecturers and students.
According to him, education, social and environment are three key sectors Siemens Energy takes a serious interest in and carries out projects in these areas.
In his remarks, Vice Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Ogundipe, said the contract for the digital engineering laboratory followed due process and was monitored by the project officer of Siemens Energy to ensure compliance.
Prof. Ogundipe assured the MD of Siemens Energy that aside from lecturers in the Electrical & Electronics Engineering Department, the digital laboratory would expose students in the department to the latest in their field.
He appealed to lecturers in the department to allow the students use the facility, stating, ”students don’t sleep, they are always busy with their phones and are more exposed to current issues.”
Ogundipe lauded Siemens Energy for donating to the facility and revealed that staff would be trained so that they can retrain students.
The outgoing VC congratulated the department for attracting the project and revealed that an Alumnus donated another facility to the department recently.
“This is a big investment by Siemens Energy. It will be useful to staff and students. It is a World standard digital laboratory. I want to assure Siemens Energy that the facility will be maintained, he stressed.
The VC commended the Director of Distance Learning Institute; Prof. Uchenna Udeani for her commitment to ensuring the project is completed.
The Dean, Faculty of Engineering, and Head of, Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering lauded Siemens Energy for donating the project.
