From Sola Ojo, Kaduna
The Management of Kaduna Electric on Tuesday night said that its investigations so far revealed that six and not 11 persons lost their lives in the unfortunate electrical incident that occurred in Zaria last week.
The company said given the fatality figure after its finding on the unfortunate incident in the Zaria suburb last week Thursday became necessary to clear the air on the contrary figure in the public.
Head of Corporate Communication, Kaduna Electric, Abdulazeez Abdullahi in a statement noted that while sending condolences to the families of the deceased, the company has taken measures to avert a reoccurrence.
According to him, “in the cause of its investigations, the company’s officials visited Gwargwaje community and met with families of the affected persons on three occasions since the incident to mourn with them and gather relevant information on the incident.
“From the direct interaction with victims and community leaders, the fatalities recorded involved only six persons. Five of the deceased lived on Kagoro Close, Gwargwaje except for one person who resided in the Police Barracks.
The company has also gathered detailed information on all those who sustained injuries or lost property and has been liaising with relevant security authorities and the traditional institution in Zaria to discuss the next steps.
“Releasing the fatality figure has become necessary in view of the need to correct the erroneous information being peddled by a section of the media”.
