Skye Bank Plc. has unveiled its Skye Rainbow Children’s Day Essay Competition with a call for entries across the six geo-political zones of the country. The children are to choose and write an essay on either of the topics “My Father, My Hero” or “Why My Mum is so Special” with submission for entries expected to close May 30, 2017.

The Children’s Day celebration is an annual global initiative of the United Nations instituted to promote child welfare and is observed on May 27 in Nigeria.

In the promotion of child welfare, Skye Bank has chosen topics for the essay competition centred around parents, as it is intended to encourage children appreciate their parents’ commitment to improving their welfare.

Speaking on the competition, the Group Head, Retail Banking, Mr. Ndubuisi Osakwe, said Skye Bank is committed to the support of efforts aimed at improving the welfare  of children. This, he noted, is expressed in the various financial solutions and inclusion initiatives undertaken by the bank, including the Skye Rainbow savings account, which promotes good savings culture among children and the Skye  Rainbow Essay Competition, which encourages good communication.

He further stated that the competition’s overall goal is to develop in the Nigerian child, creativity, good presentation skills and proper use of English, as a medium of communication. Also, it is intended to inculcate in the Nigerian child, a culture of appreciation for the positive parental influence over their lives in shaping their destiny.

Also, Osakwe disclosed that the “state-of-the-art educational tablets would be given out to the top 21 entries during the ‘Skye Banker for a Day’  celebration where winners will meet with the bank’s top management; and also get to play top roles all in a bid to improve financial literacy.

To qualify for this competition, a child must be between the ages of eight and 12 years old, own an active Skye Rainbow account and carry out a credit transaction of at least N10,000 in the account within the competition period (April – May, 2017).

The essay must contain the name of the child as it appears in his account and passport photo of the child with date of birth, plus Rainbow account number. In addition, the essay must be written by the child in not more than 200 words. Any noticeable parental input will disqualify the entry.

Handwritten and neat entries should be scanned and submitted to [email protected] with subject: My Skye Rainbow Essay for (input child’s name and account number).
