Small and Medium Enterprises Development (SMEDAN) has flagged off the training of 450 youths in South East on Business Skills with 90 entrepreneurs in Ebonyi State benefiting from the training.
A Director of Enterprises Development and Promotion in the Agency, Monday Ewans, disclosed this in Abakaiki while flagging off the exercise.
He noted that the training was under the National Business Skill Development Initiative of the Agency.
He described National and Small Scale Development Enterprises as a critical sub-sector in the nation’s economy.
“As you may be aware, the National and Small Scale Development Enterprises sub-sector is a critical sub,-sector in the Nigerian Economy.
“They collectively account for a majority of enterprises in Nigeria and also account for the highest number of jobs created.
“Today, the programme is starting simultaneously in all the states within the South East geopolitical zone where a total of 450 entrepreneurs will be impacted.
“In Ebonyi State, 90 entrepreneurs engage in fashion, leather works and gym Jim repairs will be impacted with entrepreneurship training, vocational training and equipment.
“The most MSE survey of 2020 revealed that there are about 39.5millon MSEs that are employing about 62.5million persons which is about 80.3 per cent labour force as of that day and contributing 46.31 per cent and 6.31 per cent to nominal GDP and export respectively.
“These statistics cannot be ignored in any serious economy. Properly harnessed, MSE can trigger an entrepreneur revolution in Industry, Agriculture and Commerce in Nigeria,” he stated.
