From Tunde Omolehin, Sokoto

The All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate in Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto has assured the physically challenged and islamic cleric (Imams) that his administration will revive the monthly stipends introduced by the immediate past administration, if elected as governor.

Aliyu gave this assurance while addressing a crowd of supporters who attended the APC eastern senatorial zone campaign rally in Gwadabawa local government.

According to him, the present administration in the state has since stopped paying the monthly stipends which was meant to provide succor to the less privileged and the physically challenged in the state.

He added that the monthly stipends to the physically challenged were initiated by the Wamakko-led administration as part of measures to discourage street begging, especially in the Sokoto metropolis.

Ahmad wondered how any serious government would stop a gesture aimed at reducing street begging which has become a menace in our society.

“I also want to assure our Imams, their deputies and adhans across the state of the restoration of their monthly stipends which has equally been stopped by the current administration in the state.” Ahmad said

The APC candidate also decried the absence of developmental projects across the state despite hundreds of billions received from the federation account in the last seven years.

The APC candidate also promised to complete the long abandoned Gwadabaws-Sakamaru-Gagane road project, initiated by Wamakko’s administration.
