A member of Sokoto State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Gidado, has organised skills training for 350 unemployed youths in his constituency.
The training programme was inaugurated by Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, in Sokoto, on Tuesday.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Musa Ausa, commended the lawmaker for the gesture.
“This is a great initiative by a lawmaker which needs to be emulated by all political office holders and senior government officials, as it directly supports the living standard of the entire society.
“As such, all political office holders should always utilize their little earnings in bolstering people’s development,” he said.
He called on the beneficiaries to commit themselves to the project, so as to learn life-long skills that would enable them earn a living and contribute to national development.
The governor appreciated the sustained support and cooperation of the state legislature to his administration, assuring that the government would continue to empower the people.
Also, the Speaker of the assembly, Salihu Maidaji, represented by the House Leader, Garba Bello, commended the lawmaker for the gesture and called on his colleagues to emulate it.
Maidaji noted that the programme would complement government’s efforts in reducing poverty and unemployment.
Earlier, Gidado, who represents Sokoto South I in the assembly, said that the participants were mostly women and youth.
He pledged to sustain the initiative, which was principally designed to make the beneficiaries self reliant.
