Chairman, Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Committee, Malam Lawal Maidoki,  has said that about N6.34 million was spent for the treatment of no fewer than 965 psychiatric patients in the state.

Maidoki spoke, on Monday, in Sokoto, at the monthly disbursement of medical items to the needy, through various hospitals and pharmaceutical shops.

He said the committee expended over N6.34 million on the treatment of 965 Psychiatric patients in the state.

Maidoki said: “It has been a tradition of the committee with the support of the state government to disburse this money monthly.

“This money should be used judiciously for the sake of the patients in the state, so that no one dies because there is no drug to treat him or her in our hospitals.

“And as such, this month, we are distributing over N 12 million to those hospitals and pharmaceutical shops for the treatment of these patients.

“Moreover, as part of the efforts made by the committee, only last month, no fewer than 965 psychiatric patients were treated at the Federal Neuro- Psychiatric Hospital, Kware in the state.

“And out of the number, 48 were admitted,” he said.

Maidoki added: ” There is the need for the wealthy among us to complement the efforts of the state government in treating underprivileged patients in the state.

“There is the need for all those bestowed with wealth, banks and other corporate entities to assist in ensuring no indigent patient dies because there is no drug,” he said. (NAN)
