From Obinna Odogwu, Awka

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has called on all Christian denominations in Nigeria to unite and stay strong, especially now that the country appears to be in its most perilous time.

He said the coming together of Christians at this point in time was critical as the body of Christ is one. He disclosed he had already begun taking positive steps in that direction in the state.

The governor spoke while felicitating with the Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese (Anglican Communion), Alexander Ibezim, who marked his 60th birthday.

“As Christians, we must come together. I was impressed when you mentioned you went to see the Catholic priests and they prayed for and with you. That is the spirit. That is also what we have begun.

“At the lodge, we have service every day. On Mondays, the Pentecostals lead us in service, on Tuesdays, the Anglicans lead us in service and then Wednesdays, we have the Catholics. And we go on throughout the week. It is the spirit of ecumenism. The body of Christ is one,” he said.

Soludo said he would go into fasting and praying for divine guidance, especially now that the election year was near. He asked Nigerians to ensure they make informed choices for the sake of their future.

“I know this is the season of politics; we are getting into it. The campaigns will soon hit and everybody campaigning. But the point is that all politics is local and at the end we are going to articulate that one,” Soludo said.
