The Director of Public Relations department, Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON),Mrs Foluso Bolaji, has restated the need to synergise with the Media to ensure that campaign  against sub-standard goods is successful.

Bolaji noted that SON remained committed to providing standards to Nigerians, to help in tackling cases of sub-standard products in the country.

The director of public relations department, who stated this in Lagos during a courtesy visit by  members of  Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CICAN), reiterated that the agency has not only been at the forefront of advocacy against fake products but will continue to do enforcement, monitoring, tracking of suspects and offenders.

“In the last couple of years, a lot of seizures, destruction and prosecution in court of law have been done, however,” there is still a lot to do because we can’t rest on our oars or become complacent, as a result of this, we need to synergise with the Media and ensure that our campaign to sensitize Nigeria about the effect of sub-standard goods and to eradicate it to a large extent is successful.”

While acknowledging the enormity and huge responsibility which rests on the shoulder of the organization, she stressed that a lot of measures to deepen their operations in the Economy have been put in place.

“Our focus at this point in time is the campaign on ‘Buyers Beware’ in this ember months and beyond. We want to let you know that in this last quarter of the year October to December, usually witness upsurge in importation because it coincides with festive season and there is a lot of travel in a bid to complete a house, fake cables will be bought, as well as second hand tyres, so we need to sensitize the populace”.

Speaking on the need for deeper media collaboration, she maintained that there is need for total commitment and education of the public in our collective drive to make the country a safe haven.

“It should be seen as a call for service where all hands should be on deck to rid the country of unscrupulous persons and character,” she concluded.
