The registrar, National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, has assured the over 1.209 million candidates and their parents that results of the 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) would be released 45 days after the last paper.

Prof. Wushishi gave the assurance in Lagos while monitoring the ongoing 2022 SSCE in some schools. He was accompanied on the tour by senior management staff of NECO.

He disclosed that 1, 209 million candidates nationwide and in five countries, Togo, Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Niger and Cote d’ivoire are participating in the exam.

On release of results, Wushishi said as soon the examination is over, the council would swap answer papers among the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for coordination and marking.

He added:  “Within three months of the exercise, the SSCE results will be made public.  For us at NECO, 45 days after the last paper, results will be released.  The candidates can be rest assured.”

According to him, the monitoring team made up of senior management staff had visited Kogi, Ekiti, Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Ogun States to access the conduct of the 2022 SSCE.

The NECO boss said in all states visited stakeholders acknowledged the smooth conduct of the SSCE and that his team is happy with what they saw at various exam centers.

“In examinations like this, we will certainly experience some challenges.  The council made adequate arrangement for exam materials and the smooth conduct of the SSCE.”

He further revealed that in states experiencing insecurity, the council made adequate security arrangement to protect NECO staff, supervisors, exam materials and exam centres.

The NECO registrar confirmed that examination was conducted in states with security challenges such as in the South East and North East. He commended those behind the smooth conduct of SSCE in the troubled states.

Prof. Wushishi, who recently clocked one year in office, said he has repositioned the council to enhance better service delivery to the Nigerian child.  He further stated that staffs have been retrained for effective performance of their various tasks.

The registrar and his monitoring team visited Ilupeju Senior Grammar School, Oshodi, when the students were preparing to write Agriculture. The supervisor, Mr. Ogundele Ezekiel said 96 candidates registered for NECO.

At Agbayewa Memorial College, Ilupeju, the Principal, Mr. Akinpelu Rauf and the centre supervisor, Mr. Kazeem Kolawole, received the NECO registrar and his team.The supervisor said 49 students registered for the SSCE while six are writing Agriculture.

The 1.209 million candidates writing the ongoing SSCE 2022 are being examined in 76 subjects. The school exam will end on Friday, August 12.

The candidates are expected to use the results for the 2022 admission exercise into the universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
