Femi Folaranmi, Yenagoa

Ahead of the celebration of the 51 anniversary of Biafra Independence, scheduled for Tuesday, May 22 , the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) have warned security agencies to steer clear  of the activities lined up for the celebration.

The MASSOB/BIM leader in Bayelsa State, Chief Isaac Ofoegbu, who stated this in a press conference in Yenagoa, urged all Bayelsans to come out for the celebration.

Ofoegbu, who congratulated Chief Ralph Uwazurike for nurturing a struggle without violence, also cautioned security agencies not to attempt to disrupt its activities.

According to him, the group has not been involved in any violent activity that would warrant security agencies to stop them from exercising their fundamental human rights.

Speaking in the same vein, Mr. Collins Nwani explained that the group would use the occasion to showcase the non-violent approach of its struggle.

“MASSOB/BIM has been a group which has highlighted the non-violent approach to the Biafra struggle. It is this non-violent approach that has made us unique and attractive than other Biafran agitators throughout the world.

“We want to strongly advised the security agencies to steer clear from the non-violent group that are just out to exercise their fundamental rights to achieve freedom.

“During the celebration which would have in attendance all believers in the MASSOB/BIM dream, there would be a peaceful rally, exchange of gifts and a football competition to demonstrate our resolve for the Biafra dream.”
