The Kano State Police Command  has  arrested five suspects for buying and selling of permanent voter’s cards (PVCs) ahead of the supplementary elections in the state.

A statement by the command’s public relations officer, DSP Haruna Abdullahi, disclosed that two women, Sa’adatu  of Brigade Quarters and Halima of Tal’udu Quarters were arrested, Tuesday, for purchasing the cards from unsuspecting voters at Gama Quarters in Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state.

The police disclosed that eight PVC  and  N10,000 were recovered from the suspects, adding that, “Investigation is on to unmask the persons connected to the crime with a view to  prosecuting them in court.”

According to the police, two more suspects, Suleman and Dankanawa, all of Gama ‘A’ Quarters in  Nassarawa Council, were also arrested on the suspicion that they were moving about  “with the intention of buying PVCs.”

“Those who arrested them wanted to lynch them but they were rescued by the police  from the angry  mob,” a  police source said.

According to the police source, Shuaibu, aka Ustaz, of Dandinshe Gabas, in  Dala Council, was also arrested for the same offence of buying PVCs.

The police said  the suspect confessed to have purchased two PVCs  for N3000 each within Dandinshe quarters.

The police reminded the public that buying and selling of PVCs remains an offence punishable under the Electoral Act, adding that any person found engaging in the act should be promptly reported to the nearest police station for arrest, investigation and prosecution. 

Meanwhile, the police command has dismissed the rumours in the social media that Kano State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Wakili Mohammed, has been transferred  from the state.

“He is still the Commissioner of Police in Kano State. Members of the public are advised to shun the rumours, consider it to be the hardworking of mischief-makers,” the police said, adding, “Members of the public should also stop trusting and spreading rumours and false speculations communicated through the social media.”
