There was palpable fear around the David Mark by-pass area of Makurdi, the Benue State capital yesterday after some suspected cultists invaded the area and killed a father and his son.
Sources from the area told our correspondent that the dare devil cult group invaded the area at the early hours of Thursday and headed straight for the home of ASP Daniel Akogwu (retired) where they laid siege by the corner waiting for the son who was alleged to be a member of a rival cult group.
However, a residence of the area who simply gave his name as Anthony said the Mrs. Akowgu, oblivious of the ambush already by the cultists around her home, opened the door and on sighting them, raised alarm which attracted her husband and her son.
“As soon as the wife of the policeman and mother of the young man that was killed opened the food to their apartment, she saw the cult boys with their weapons close to her apartment and raised alarm.”
“Her scream attracted the attention of her husband from who quickly picked his cutlass and rushed outside to see what was happening. His son also rushed out too. But before they could understand what was happening, the cult boys shot at them and killed both father and son on the spot.”
It was also learnt that the killers of the policeman and his son attempted to set their corpses and their house ablaze but for the arrival of the police at the scene of the attack.
Confirming the report, state Police Image maker, ASP. Moses Yamu, disclosed that a man Daniel Akogwu, a retired Police ASP and his son Oche Akogwu were shot dead by suspected cult boys early hours of Thursday in Makurdi.
He however said the police was yet to make any arrest in connection with the killing stressing that investigation into the matter had commenced with a view to getting the killers of the former police officer and his son.
