Five illegal miners were attacked and inflicted with gunshots injuries, on Thursday, by unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in Jol community of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Daily Sun gathered that the incident occurred at about 8:00p.m on Wednesday evening when the miners were returning from the mining site.

It was learnt that the gunmen carted away with N17, 100 and tin mining worth N16, 500 from the illegal miners who were caught unawares.

The victims included, Hosea Joshua, Thomas David, Dan Chungyang, Istifanus David, Lawrence Ibrahim and David Danjuma who were badly injured and were said to be receiving treatment at  Primary Health Care Riyom.

Daily Sun findings also revealed that it took the intervention of STF operatives who pledge to foot the medical bills of the victims before they were attended to in the clinic.

Confirming the incident, Commander of the Special Task Force (STF), Major General Nicholas Rogers said there was only a minor sclash between Fulani herdsmen and some illegal miners in Jol community.

He said the incident was immediately brought under control with the intervention of STF operatives who are station to keep vigil in the trouble areas.

Gen. Rogers said the STF paid the bills of those who were injured and they have been treated and discharge.
