No fewer than seven persons were ambushed and killed on Wednesday night by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Bokkos and Bassa councils of Plateau State.

Daily Sun gathered that the herdsmen launched a midnight attack on Josho village of Daffo chiefdom of Bokkos Local Government Area, where four persons were killed while 10 others sustained injuries.

It was learnt that several houses with foodstuff and property worth million of naira were also set ablaze by the suspected herdsmen.

The Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Matthias Terna, confirmed that three persons were killed in Bokkos Local Government Area on Wednesday night by suspected gunmen. He added that three persons were ambushed and killed also on Monday night by suspected herdsmen in Bassa Local Government Area while Samson Sunday escaped with gunshot injuries.

He said troops have been redeployed to the trouble spots to calm the affected communities while investigation has commenced to unravel those behind the killings.

Terna said a security meeting was ongoing with community leaders and traditional rulers to prevent the escalation of killings across the state.

He called on residents of Plateau State to go about their lawful activities and report any suspicious movement in their respective communities to security agencies for prompt action.
