2018 African Youth Games Bronze Medallist, Chidinma Okoko and her mother National champion, Chiamaka Onuonumu are both ranked number one in the female -57kg and +73kg category respectively according to the latest rankings by the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation.
Last March, 17 year old junior Taekwondo athlete, Chidinma Okoko was unranked, unknown a white belt.
She participated at the 2018 African Youth Games held in Algeria last July, winning a bronze medal, won gold at the 2019 Nigeria International Open and by the latest National Ranking, the Number One Ranked athlete in the Female -57kg category.
Meanwhile, her mother, Chiamaka Onuonumu, is the current number one ranked Player in the Female +73kg Heavyweight division, having won Gold medals in the past four major events in Nigeria namely; Nigeria Open, National Sports Festival, Korean Ambassador Cup and National Trials.
Other athletes ranked number one in their respective categories includes; MVP Male Athlete, Ifeoluwa Ajayi, Young Gun Elizabeth Anyanacho and veteran taekwondo champion duo – Sunday Onofe and Chinazum Nwosu; extended their Ranking dominance in the Male -63kg, Female -67kg, Male -87kg and Female -53kg.
After an impressive performance at the 2019 Nigeria Taekwondo International Open, Lagos’ Abdulateef Arinola is now the number one ranked athlete in the Male -54kg.
He defeated Saudi Arabia’s Abdulelah Asiri in an explosive final at the first G1 tournament in Abuja.
