Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State, on Tuesday, said that the state’s airport would be renamed Danbaba Danfulani Suntai Airport after the deceased former governor.

Ishaku stated this while interacting with journalists.

He said that the choice of the airport to immortalise the former governor was informed by the flair and passion Suntai had for aviation while he was alive.

Ishaku said that Suntai’s passion for the development of the state and his numerous sacrifices especially for the peace and oneness of the state endeared Him a place of honour in the history of the state.

“We must all come together as a people to give this amiable leader a befitting burial. We are doing everything to give him the honor he deserves. To this end, I have presented a request to the Taraba state House of Assembly for approval to name the Jalingo Airport after this unforgettable leader. The airport will be named Danbaba Danfulani Suntai Airport”, Ishaku said.

The governor also disclosed that part of the Paris Club refunds would be used to offset the back log of Pensions and gratuity owed pensioners in the state.

He said he was “Deeply concerned over the plight of retirees in the state especially those at the local government service who have not been pay rolled since 2013″, and assured that a “definite pronouncement would soon be made on the figures to be applied in settling the outstanding liabilities owed our pensioners”.

This is coming days after the pensioners in the state made a passionate appeal to the governor to use part of the Funds to clear their pension arrears since most of their members were “going through very trying times as a result of the nonpayment of their entitlements”.
