A teenager, Daniel Obehi, who allegedly broke into the apartment of Ahmed Saka through the roof and stole N500,000, was on Thursday brought before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, 19, resides in Apapa area of Lagos.

The prosecutor, Insp. Tony Elibeh, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 5 at Amukoko area of Apapa, Lagos.

Elibeh alleged that the accused, with others now at large, broke into the apartment of the complainant and stole N500, 000 from his wardrobe.

The prosecutor said that the accused was caught by Saka’s neighbour while trying to escape.

“The complainant’s neighbour raised alarm and other tenants in the building came out and apprehended Obehi while still struggling to escape.

“When the complainant got back home, he notified the police and handed over the accused to them, while Obehi’s accomplices escaped with the money,” Elibeh said.

The accused pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and burglary.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 287 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 307 stipulates seven years imprisonment for burglary.

The Chief magistrate, Mr Titus Abolarinwa, admitted the accused to bail of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Abolarinwa adjourned further hearing in the case until August 2. (NAN)
