Tension is mounting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, over alleged killing of three people in Oba-Ile area of the town.

It was gathered that a group of notorious people suspected to be cultists now operate in the area and have killed three people between Friday and yesterday.

The victims were said to be security guards working in the area and were allegedly killed by the suspected cultists.

One of the security guards was allegedly killed at a filling station on Airport Road by the assailants.

Sources said nothing was stolen at the filling station where the security guard was killed.
A resident of the area, Ojo Adegbayi, said the gunmen left their weapons with blood stains at the scene.

The residents were said to have stayed awake for several hours last night, as policemen were busy patrolling the area.

One of the community leaders in the area, Chief Omoniyi Omadara, expressed shock over the killings, which he said was strange to the community.

Omodara, a former commissioner for Transport in the state, lamented that the devilish act took place in an environment where there are police division and area command.
He urged security operatives to fish out those behind the dastardly act and bring normalcy back to the community.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph, who confirmed the killings, said no arrest has been made by the police. He said security has been beefed up in the area, just as he assured efforts are being made by the police to unravel those behind the devilish act.
