For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

Love is a person. God is love and He lives inside the heart of every born again believer. God lives in us so that we can live, move and have our being in love.  That is our portion.

The life of the new creation starts when you discover love as the more excellent way to doing things. When God came to live inside you He released His nature into you. The expression of your regenerated new natured is seen when you walk in love.

Love lives in us because God lives in us. When we walk in love towards one another and allow love to control our actions, we are actually allowing God to control our lives because He is love. Anyone who does not walk in love, though he claims to be saved, does not know God.

When love is in control of your life, you will be patient towards people. Love is patient and kind. That is the description of God. Imagine how patient God is with all our short comings. In His grace, He shows us kindness even when we do not deserve it.

Walking in love is treating other people with the grace of kindness just like God does to you. Walking in love is knowing God. You do not know God just because you claim to do so. Those who truly know God are those who allow love to dominate their actions, their thoughts and their deeds. John said, “He that does not love, does not know God because God is love.”

The thoughts of love towards others are thoughts of good and never of evil. Love thinks no ill about other people. When you evaluate the thoughts you think about others, is it of evil or of good?

Love is not easily provoked. When you allow the Holy Spirit to begin to control your reactions, you will find that you will no longer be easily provoked. The challenge with most Christians is that though they have the Holy Spirit living inside of them, they have not learnt to allow the Holy Spirit to control their lives.

Take a few minutes to try to reflect on this: Is your life being love controlled?  Are you living, moving and having your being in love? What dominates your actions?  Is it love or selfishness? Is the Holy Spirit the driver of your life or are you in control? When you speak, do your words reflect love or hatred?

I encourage you to give the Holy Spirit full control by allowing the nature of love to begin to be seen in everything you do. Let your life be a manifestation of the love of God by helping others find God, just like you have done.  1John 4:9 says in this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Just as Jesus came into our world so that through Him we found life, so God wants you to go into the world of the unsaved so that through you they might live.

When you love, it will also show in the way you pray.

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal, says 1Corinthians 13:1

Praying in tongues is one of the gifts given to the believers with which we are supposed to enjoy fellowship and deepen our prayer lives.

But many Christians pray in tongues and do not get anything out of it because they are ignorant of the direct connection between speaking in tongues and walking in love.

Paul writing to the Corinthians reveals that if you do not walk in love, in the sight of God, you are nothing. Through the gifts of the Holy Spirit, you may be able to speak in divers types of tongues of men and angels. As powerful as that may sound, you will be worth nothing in the sight of God unless you walk in love towards people around you.

Your prayers will be like someone who is making a loud noise and like someone who is hitting a loud bell, if love does not control your life. Very many Christians are actually noise makers because they are not yielding to love.

We Christians love to pray, but we fail woefully when it comes to paying attention to little details which God has set out in scripture. What does it mean to walk in love? It means to endure or suffer long. There are many people who lose their cool once they feel mistreated. Some even boast that they cannot permit anyone to despitefully use them without retaliating.

They forget that love suffers long. Longsuffering is a characteristic of love. When you are walking in longsuffering you will endure ill treatment without losing your cool.

Love is patient. It is consistent in its nature and doesn’t change its character regardless of how you treat it. It does not become unruly.

If you do not want your prayers to be like ordinary noise before God, you have to make a decision that you will no longer be easily provoked to anger. The evidence that you lack the attribute of long suffering is seen in how easily you become angry; either against God or against people in your life who provoke you to anger. You have no control over how people will treat, but you can control how you respond to their treatment.

Keep in mind that if you allow yourself to react or act outside of love, then you will be hurting yourself because your prayers will become noise before God’s ears.

Always remember that it is not about what people do to you but how you react to what they do or say.

Matthew 5:43-44 says  Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.

Here is what Jesus commands us to do- love your enemies. You have to be selfless to do this. Most people would want to hurt their enemies and repay them evil for evil but that is against the law of love.

Do good to those who hate you. Pray for those who despitefully use you that God would help them change.
