The Sun Publishing Limited, publishers of Daily Sun, Saturday Sun, Sunday Sun and Sporting Sun, yesterday stood shoulders high above others newspapers, as it emerged the Best Crime Prevention Reporting newspaper for the year 2016.
At an event organised by the African Youths Initiative on Crime Prevention (AYICRIP), the 2017 National Youth Summit on Crime Prevention, in Lagos, the newspaper and other prominent Nigerians, including Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, AIG Adamu Ibrahim, rights activist and lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Comrade Kelani Olatunji Yusuf, Amb. Philip Obuesi, Hon. Amaechi Hason, Arije Kehinde Kamal, Smart Nonso Okafor, Africa Independent Television, Obiora Nwachukwu, Amarachi Ubani and Anthony Afemike Ebigie, were recogised for their roles in crime prevention and reporting in Nigeria.
According to the Executive Director/founder, AYICRIP, Ibe Christogonus, The Sun was honoured due to its commitment and contributions to the global fight against crime.
“The Sun Newspaper was selected as the winner of our prestigious award due to its commitment to youths and community development, community safety and crime prevention through its numerous reports,” he said.
Earlier, chairman of the occasion, Eze Eluchie, said without the youths Nigeria had no future.
According to him, the country needed to brace up for the challenges ahead, working towards creating its own economy without depending on foreign economies.
