And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word…And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful note.
Worrying about our challenges and issues of life has a suffocating effect that it carries out on God’s word in our hearts. For God’s word to bring forth fruit it is important to allow it preoccupy our mind and our thoughts. The mind is the incubation centre of understanding and once any thought fills the mind it exerts a dominant force on the human spirit.
In the parable of the sower, those who heard the word among thorns are those who, after they have received God’s word allowed the cares and worries of this life, the deceitfulness of riches and the lusts of other things to get into their mind and hearts. These cares and worries are described as thorns. On a farm ground, no farmer wants thorns to grow on the same space where his crops are supposed to grow. If thorns are allowed to grow in your heart, they will eventually choke up the word of God in your heart and make it become unfruitful.
There are some people who are very good at worrying about their problems. It is important to note that spending all your time worrying about what you do not have and what you expect God to do does not in any way make those things come to pass but rather worrying has a choking effect on God’s word and actually delays or could even stop your miracle entirely.
Stop worrying. Rather, cast your cares upon the Lord for He cares for you. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not depend upon your reasoning as to how God will do the miracle.
The God who caused bread to fall out of the skies for the Israelites in the wilderness can surely and will provide for your needs today, even if it seems as though you are living in a wilderness yourself. The God who divided the Red Sea and made a way for Israel where there seemed to be no way is the same yesterday, today and forever. If you trust Him rather than doubting and worrying, if you will spend your time praising Him rather than worrying, He will surely come through for you.
Deuteronomy 30: 9 says “And the LORD thy God will make thee plenteous in every work of thine hand, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy land, for good: for the Lord will again rejoice over thee for good, as he rejoiced over thy fathers:
The Lord will make you plenteous in every work of your hand. Idleness is one reason why people worry. Get yourself busy doing something positive. Keep your mind meditating on God’s goodness rather than leaving it idle. If you don’t have a job, do not sit down worrying and crying; rather get up and start a small business. Find something you can do so that the blessing of the Lord can begin to impact the work of your hands.
God wants to bless the works of your hands but your hands needs to be busy with something for that to happen. No matter how small, find something legal which you can do with your hands which God can bless.
I can assure you that once you have the word in your heart, worries about the things of this life will cease to happen. Matthew 6 :25-27 says.. “therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?…Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?…Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?”
Worrying has a choking effect on God’s word. There are many things which people worry about, ranging from food, clothes to even having a life partner. To worry means to hold rigorous thoughts regarding the things of this life which one needs.
The definition of worry in the English dictionary is actually very intriguing. To worry means, to torment oneself with or suffer from disturbing thoughts. It means to torment oneself with anxieties and cares. It refers to self induced trouble by entertainment of troubling thoughts.
Jesus said which of you by taking thought or worrying, can add a cubit unto his stature? In other words, when you worry it does not change anything but rather brings unnecessary torments to you.
When you spend time worrying about your problems, you are actually tormenting yourself because once you keep thinking about your problems, those problems become bigger in your eyes, it makes you become depressed, sad and unhappy and some people even begin to cry and crying never solves any problem.
Every time you worry about your problem, you are telling God that you believe the lie of Satan rather than what God said to you in the word. Worrying is actually listening to the voice of Satan. The devil is a liar; every time he suggests to you that things will not change, always know that he is lying.
Someone may say but pastor what do I do if you say I shouldn’t worry? The answer is in the following scripture.
Philippians 4:6 (Amplified Translation) says “Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.”
This is a command. He says do not fret or be anxious about anything. If you do allow yourself to become anxious you are disobeying God’s instructions. Secondly, God said in every circumstance, by prayer, make your requests known to God. Thirdly, after you have spoken to God about the situation, begin to praise and thank him for the answers before you see it manifest.
If you are born again, then you have been made righteous through your faith in Christ Jesus and here is the thus saith the Lord for today.
Isaiah 3: 10 say “ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.”
The above scripture reveals that it shall be well with the righteous and he shall eat the fruit of his doings. It is therefore important for you, apart from praying, to be doing something which God can make fruitful. If you have been looking for a job for a long time and have not found one, I encourage you to start your own small business rather than staying at home doing nothing. Think of something you can sell or a service you can render in exchange for money. Stop making excuses and think! Excuses will keep you where you are.
Praying alone cannot solve your problem; what you need is action on your part. God is ready to bless the work of your hands. So get your hands busy and let the miracle begin.
You are righteous through your faith in Christ Jesus, therefore I say unto you that you shall eat the good of the land. That is what the word says and it works the moment you declare it and live by it.
