Suspected cultists have killed the paramount ruler of Elibrada community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Eze Oha Augustine Amadionu.
Eze Amadionu was shot dead alongside a young man identified as Wayagbo Amadi and another victim whose identity could not be ascertained as at press time.
A source from the community who confirmed the incident to Daily Sun, said while the paramount ruler was killed by gunshots at his palace, Amadi and the other victim were shot and beheaded by the cultists.
The source, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the killing of the three persons, which occurred on Monday night, has caused panic and forced inhabitants to desert the community.
“Cult boys entered our community yesterday (Monday) and killed our royal highness. The boys also killed one other person, Wayagbo and another person. They removed their heads,” the witness said.
“At the moment there is fear. People are living in fear. Some are even out of the community, although police have come. But, people are living in anxiety.”
Spokesman of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), has confirmed the killing to journalists, describing the incident as unfortunate.
Omoni said a team of security operatives has been deployed to the community to restore normalcy. He blamed the recurring incidences of killings in Emohua to the regrouping of cult gangs from a particular community in the area.
The police spokesman appealed to residents of communities in Emohua to help with useful information that could led to the arrest of the criminals.
