Two factions of People Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State stormed pre- election meeting of the State Independent Electoral Commission(KESIEC).

The two factions claimed that the Commission had already recognised them.

The commission had summoned all the political parties in the state to a meeting at its headquarters, on Tuesday, ahead of election in 21 local councils in the state to replace Sole Administrators appointed by Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu administration.

Daily Sun gathered that a faction of the party, led by Ali Bagudu, came to the meeting with his team while another faction led by former Special Adviser media to immediate past Governor Musa Argungu, also attended the meeting which lasted for two hours.

It was learnt that the two factions claimed that they represented the PDP.

After the meeting, both factions shunned newsmen who had approached them for clarification on the matter. About 20 members of different political parties attended the meeting including ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

While speaking with journalists, KESIEC Commissioner  in charge of Publicity, Alhaji Haruna Muhammad Daibai, said “as far as we are concerned in the Commission, we took the letter to the Secretary at the PDP Secretariat and the Secretary accepted our letter. So, they came for the meeting. Any other things, we don’t know”.

He disclosed that 28 political parties were expected to participate in the local government election.

The KESIEC Commissioner added that there was no case in court restraining the Commission from conducting election stressed that the issue had been thrown out.

Earlier, Chairman of KESIEC, Hon. Aliyu Muhammed Mera, disclosed that the local government election would hold on July, 2017.

Said he, “Nomination forms contact and all other relevant documents in relation with election are to be made through the Secretariat of the Commission at No.4 Jalingo Crescent,GRA Birnin Kebbi .

“The KESIEC, therefore,solicits for the support and co-operation of all stakeholders and general public towards conducting free,fair,credible and acceptable local government councils general elections in the state.,”
