The Eze Ndigbo Ghana, HRM Dr Jude Chukwudi Ihenetu has joined other well meaning Nigerians to call on the Federal Government to reverse the limited cash withdrawal policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria in the interest of Nigerians who live in the rural areas.

Earlier this week, the apex bank had come out with a directive that individuals will not withdraw more than 20 thousand Naira daily and 100 thousand Naira per week, a development that has attracted wide condemnation from many people who felt that the policy will hut people in the rural areas.

In a statement, the Umuduruoha Amaigbo Nwagele Imo-State born Royal Father, HRM Dr Ihenetu said over 70 percent of Nigerians live in the rural areas where they don’t have access to  steady electricity. “Under this arrangement how will they be able to charge their phones and do electronic banking? Allowing this policy to go ahead will deny many people their  means of livelihood. For instance, traders will not be able to get money to run their petty business.”, he said.

On the issue of cashless economy, HRM Dr Ihenetu, a Global Peace Ambassador said  even though the measure would help to stabliise the economy, interest of the common man in the villages where there are fewer or no banks at all should be protected.
