The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday presented Certificate of Return to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, the winner of the March 9 governorship election.

The commission also issued certificates of return to the 24-elected members of the Enugu State House of Assembly in the last poll.

The certificate was presented to Gov. Ugwuanyi by INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Enugu State, Dr. Emeka Ononamadu.

Deputy-governor elect and Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Mrs. Cecilia Ezilo, was equally issued with her own certificate of return.

After the legislators-elect had received their own certificates, the commission called on the deputy governor-elect for her document and then wrapped up the event by issuing the Governor-elect with his own certificate.

Speaking at the event, Gov. Ugwuanyi assured people of Enugu State that they would continue to enjoy peace and unity in the state, during his second tenure.

While he pledged to continue to engage all parties, Ugwuanyi said his administration would continue to operate a transparent government for the progress of the state, adding that “Enugu State will continue to be in the hands of God.”

Ugwauanyi, who thanked God for the electoral victory, also reiterated his commitment to infrastructural development, human capacity building, peace and security.

Ononamadu had earlier in his address, commended the stakeholders, political parties, security agencies, media and the voters for their painstaking support in conducting an election which is today evaluated as one of the best and most peaceful in the country.

He said that INEC would soon round off the post-election review meeting with stakeholders to appraise what went right or wrong and steps to achieve success in future.

The REC, however, encouraged the elected members to be fair to the electorate and all Nigerians alike while being firm in discharging their duties.
