The Abia State Police Command has arrested an undergraduate, a 200 Level student of the state university, David, for allegedly killing a 67-year-old man, Alaebuomu Ezeonu.
Ezeonu was stabbed to death and dumped in a ditch before his tricycle was stolen.
Commissioner of Police, Adeleye Oyebade, said the deceased, a tricycle operator, was declared missing.
According to him, the police have started investigation, after David, a student of Abia State University, was arrested.
He said the suspect had confessed to the crime and led detectives to the ditch, where he dumped the body.
The police commissioner said the decomposing body of the victim was recovered by the police and deposited at a public mortuary, stating that the suspect would be charged to the court for murder, armed robbery and other related offences.
Oyebade said another suspect, Igwe, was also arrested for allegedly killing another man.
According to him, a patrol team heard a gunshot along Obohia Road, Aba, and rushed to the scene, where policemen met a man in a pool of his blood.
He said Igwe was arrested in the ceiling of his house, opposite the spot where he shot the man.
“One pump-action rifle and a double-barrel gun with 15 live cartridges and four expended cartridges were recovered from the suspect,” he said.
The police chief said detectives were investigating the motive behind the killing.
Oyebade, who lamented the level at which undergraduates were becoming involved in armed robbery and cultism, urged parents to know what their wards were up to in school.
He warned that the police would not spare anyone caught in illegal activities, especially armed robbery, cultism and kidnapping.
“Parents should not come to beg when their children are picked for criminal activities. It is better to check on them and advise them against crime,” he said.
