A lecturer at the Petroleum Training Institute, (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, Dr. John Andrew, has urged undergraduates in various higher institutions of learning in the country to take advantage of the Bank of Industry (BOI) Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme to be able to go into small-scale businesses that could be nurtured for self-sustenance after graduation.
Speaking in a lecture delivered at the annual Arewa Students Association Day, the lecturer disclosed that the funds that was specifically designed to assist small scale entrepreneurship among the youths especially those that fell into the category of undergraduates had not been tapped into by the age bracket that is being targeted by the bank, stressing that it was time they took advantage of this while still in school.
According to him, what was required of them was to have a very good proposal of the kind of business they want to go into and once the bank found such an idea very good in terms of the potentials to grow and sustain it when properly managed the bank will key into such an idea and with a little paper work would make the funds available.
While volunteering to make his service available to any student with a brilliant business idea but who lacked the idea of how to write a good proposal, the lecturer admonished the students to develop the mentality of a risk taker and not be afraid to fall in whatever endeavour, stressing that these are some of the rare attributes of a successful business man.
In his speech on the occasion, the incoming President of Arewa Students Association of PTI, Mr. Onojah George, advised the students to always see the possibilities in any task they decided to embark upon in life as that would spur them to achieving success even where others failed, pointing out that their strength lies more in their convictions to excel in all they do.
He further noted: “My sincere advice to all Arewa and Nigerian students is that nothing should make you work under pressure for pressure is the weapon of the devil and we should remember that the difference between here and there is time and as a student we must do everything with time consciousness.”
