The management of Christopher University (UNICHRIS), a private tertiary institution in Mowe, Ogun State has concluded plans to introduce two new courses to its academic curriculum.

The two new courses are Theatre Art and, Media and Information Science. The introduction of the two courses is based on the university’s bid to meet students’ demand, promote creativity and information technology.

UNICHRIS was in 2015 granted approval by National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence Bachelor degree programmes and academic activities took off in 2016.

The two new courses, in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences have been approved by the Senate. He noted also that UNICHRIS is ready to receive officials of NUC for resource verification of the courses in March 2019. Currently, UNICHRIS runs 13 courses.

The pioneer Vice Chancellor of UNICHRIS, Prof Friday Ndubuisi said the university vision is to unite theory with practice by bringing experts in the industry to lecture students and exposure them in key industries to acquire practical experience.

The excited VC said: “Christopher University is dear to our heart and we are anxious to produce leaders of tomorrow to make great impact in Nigeria and the world. We are working tirelessly merging town and gown to become the university of first choice and for our students to impact the world after graduation. We are interested in producing students that will be productive; employers of labour.   

“Theatre Art and, Media and Information Science will be added to the already existing 13 courses in the curriculum. They were introduced because of the students’ interest for information technology, the fact that we are in the age of information technology, the urge to be very practical and to harness the creativity of the young people. It is also due to the high demand of students for these courses and to boost our student index.

Continuing, he added that the institutionis on the mission to link theory with practice and has interest in modern information technology which is the trend the world over.

Pfor Ndubuisi said in line with this mission, the computer laboratory of UNICHRIS has been equipped with 272 computer system in wait for the 2019/2020 academic session. The radio and television studios in the school have also been equipped ready for academic and commercial broadcasting.

“Communication is an essential link to the outside world. In line with our vision to bridge the link with the outside world, we have set up a radio and television studios. Currently, the students are undergoing the theoretical part of communication and practical will commence in the next session.

“I want to be remembered as a pioneer of this great institution that created a standard and produced graduates that are confident, are leaders, creative and employer of labour,” said the VC.

Prof Ndubuisi commended the proprietor of UNICHRIS; Sir Christopher Ezeh for his quest to provide quality university education to Nigerian youth and that with qualified and experienced lecturers, the management is working hard to attain his vision.

He revealed that by 2020, UNICHRIS will graduate her first set of students, adding ‘’we are looking forward to the occasion. Our graduates will make the different and their performnce will attract attention to the university. Our concern is electricity, we are not on the national grid.’’
