Authorities of University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Lagos, has sanctioned 108 students for social misconduct during the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 academic session.

The various sanctions meted out to the 108 students were made known in the summary of the report by the university management.

Names of the affected 108 students in different departments and levels were published on the university’s website.

In October, UNILAG expelled 125 students and suspended 73 others for academic misconduct.

The offences allegedly committed by the students included disruption of peace, involvement in drugs, monetary/property, sexual misconduct, weapons, firearms, and explosives possession.

A breakdown of the sanctions revealed that eight students were issued a warning, 46 rusticated, 41 placed on indefinite suspension, eight expelled and two, who are diploma students will not be admitted, while some were withdrawn and their names flagged by the management, thus they cannot be admitted to any university.

The list includes three students in 500 level, four in diploma class, 34 in 400 level, 11 in 100 level, 21 in 200 level, 34 in 400 level and others whose levels were not stated.

A 400level Philosophy student who was sanctioned for sexual misconduct had his “warning, publicised at the faculty and departmental notice boards and not to hold any office in the university.”

The university management disclosed that a diploma student who was sanctioned for drugs would not be admitted into UNILAG.

Another student in the Department of Quantity Surveying involved in drug-related misconduct was handed over to UNILAG Medical Centre for special counselling and rehabilitation.
