Association of Resident Doctors in the Osun State University (UNIOSUN), on Friday commenced three days warning strike citing insecurity in the hospital.

A statement jointly signed by the president rand secretary of the association, Dr S. O. Ilori and Dr F. O. Olaomi, and made available to our correspondent Friday evening, stated that there have been incessant attacks and poor security in the hospital.

The statement noted that the conclusion to embark on strike was reached at the emergency general meeting held on Friday.

It stated that the association have been asked to withdraw all forms of emergency and clinical services in the hospital except for patients already on admission for the next 72 hours when there shall be another meeting to re-appraise the security structure in the hospital.

The association demanded immediate provision of an armoured tank, the presence of trained security officers, and a security post at both entrances of the hospital, saying “there should be immediate organisation and re-organisation of the security structure in the hospital to forestall the recurrence of this unpleasant and
life-threatening attacks on hospital staff while discharging their duties.”

It explained that a patient was brought to the hospital and while efforts were being made to save him, the patient suffered a cardiac attack and died.

“There were no defibrillator and continuous 5-lead ECG analysis to assist with the resuscitation. The A&E team and the medical doctors informed the patient relatives who in turn unleashed insults and brought out dangerous objects to harm our members.

“This caused a commotion, members fled for their lives, some locked
themselves in the toilets and various rooms while many were injured. These individuals were allowed to cause their havoc unchecked for more
than 40 minutes,” the statement added.
