Gunmen suspected to be bandits have kidnapped two female students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ayetoro Campus, Ayetoro in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 9p.m on Sunday, when the suspected bandits stormed Igbole Aibo Quarters of Ayetoro, shooting sporadically.

A resident who pleaded anonymity, told Daily Sun that in the melee that followed the shooting, abducted the two students who were said to be returning home from an outing.

The abducted female students were identified as Adeyemo Oluwaseun Precious (300 Level Forestry and Wildlife Management) and Oyefule Oluwatosin Abisola (300 Level, Agricultural Economics).

It was further gathered that the suspected bandits had actually targeted a female GSM call vouchers dealer living in the area.

But following their failure to break through the gate to her house, they resorted to abducting the two female varsity students.

“Being unable to gain access, they started shooting sporadically to create fear, and it was at this point Seun and Tosin were returning home, which is the same house the call cards dealer lives near Igbole, Aibo Community Primary School, Aibo Quarter, Ayetoro, Ogun State”, the resident further disclosed.

When contacted, the Deputy Registrar, Corporate Affairs Unit, of the institution, Niyi Oduwole, confirmed the incident and described the development as unfortunate.

Oduwole, said that the university management was on top of the situation in ensuring the safe return of the abductees.

“The incident is most unfortunate. The university is beefing up security situation around all our campuses and hostels.

“We sympathise with the parents of the victims and we want to assure them that their wards are rescued unhurt. We are on top of the situation”. Oyewole stated.

A source who spoke with the Daily Sun on the condition of anonymity, said the abductors of the students have reached out to the families of the victims and demanded a N50m ransom.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, has confirmed the incident.

He said that the Area Commander in Ayetoro and the Anti-Kidnapping team of Ogun State police command were on rescue mission to bring back the victims.

“It is true that two students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University were kidnapped on Sunday night at Ayetoro at about 9.30p.m.

“The Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, had directed that the Area Commander, Ayetoro and the Anti-kidnapping team of the Command to ensure that the students are rescued unhurt from their abductors’ den.

“We are on top of the situation to ensure their safety while security situation in the locality has been beefed up.” Oyeyemi stated.
