The suspect, identified as Igwe, allegedly stabbed Uche Manblack during the sharing of the money they extorted from people they arrested for walking late at night.
Daily Sun gathered that trouble started when the suspect wanted to collect the lion share of the loot but Manblack resisted the move.
The suspect, who felt slighted, threatened to deal with Manblack if he would not allow him take the lion share.
A witness, who claimed the two rivals were drunk, said the suspect ran to his house which was a stone’s throw distance to the vigilance post.
The witness said: “When Igwe came back, he was armed with a dagger which he used in stabbing Manblack severally in the chest and the man fell down and died before help could come.”
A community leader, in Otolo,
who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the suspect, was promptly arrested by the community and handed over to the police while Manblack’s corpse was deposited in a morgue.
However, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Ali Okechukwu, contradicted the community leader’s claim that the suspect was handed over to the police.
The PPRO said: “The suspect is on the run but the Otolo-Nnewi Police Division is handling the matter. The police will soon pick up the suspect”.
