From Lateef Dada, Osogbo

The Old Students Association of St Charles Grammar School, Osogbo, Osun State, on Monday, celebrated teachers of their alma mata for the performance of students in the West African Examination Council (WAEC) result.

This is just as the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Adelani Aderinto, boasted that the recent ranking by the National Bureau of Statistics that rated Osun as 36 out of 37 was satisfactory because it is devoid of assisted performance.

He said the state had agreed to have zero tolerance for malpractice and the principals have kept faith with the agreement, assuring that the students will perform better in the future ranking.

“If some schools have had assisted performance, particularly those that have to increase their business because if the students passed, other people will come, we are proud that our ranking is not assisted performance.

“I can beat my chest that the result of our schools is not assisted because we have zero tolerance for examination malpractice,” he added.

The president of the old students, Tade Adekunle, disclosed that N1.5 million was donated to the teachers because of their efforts that were felt in the performance of the students that sat for the last WAEC.

He explained that 19 teachers, including mathematics, English language, and Physics teachers performed exceptionally because all their students passed the examination.

He noted that all the students that sat for Mathematics, English language, and Physics passed while some others passed between 96 and 98 per cent.

According to him, the reward was to boost the morale of the teachers and encourage them to do more in dedication to their jobs.

“It has not been heard in the history of the school that students scored 96 per cent including Mathematics and English. That is why we decided to reward the teachers that taught them.”
