From Abdullah Tsoho, Dutse

JIGAWA State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru has promised to ensure that the newly established Sule Lamido University Kafin-Hausa did not collapse.

The governor gave the assurance during his visit to the institution at the weekend.

The governor who was received by the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Abdullahi Rubado, said despite the present economic situation, he would never allow the education sector and the university to collapse.

He said the state government gives priority to the education sector to ensure qualitative education was given to Jigawa people.

Governor Badaru also commended the vice chancellor and the management of the institution for their commitment, selfless service and financial discipline.

He commended their attitude, urging them to “put your requests on paper and forward them to the commissioner for education who will bring them to my office. Government would do its best.”

The vice chancellor assured that financial difficulties will not in any way retard the institution’s academic activities.

He explained that though a lot of projects had been abandoned by contractors due to lack of funds, they were managing the little resources at their disposal.

Professor Rubado said some of the projects abandoned include the senate building, residence of the vice chancellor, road constructions etc.

He told the governor that what the institution was collecting from the state and the 27 local government councils had seriously dropped.
