Dr. Gary Linkov is a facial plastics and hair restoration expert with double-board certification by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. His vast experience in the field also means he can help patients prepare in advance for their hair transplantation journey since people can only make the best decision for themselves when they are well-informed.

Here, Dr. Gary Linkov shares with us the top three things everybody must consider before going for a hair transplantation surgery.

Check your eligibility and know the process.

A hair transplant is not meant for everyone. Dr. Gary Linkov suggests talking to your doctor in detail about your eligibility to determine whether you are the right candidate for the procedure. “The need for hair transplantation depends on several factors, such as the amount of hair loss, age, medical condition, etc.,” explains Dr. Linkov. “Only after necessary tests and thorough consultations with your doctor should you decide whether you even require the procedure, let alone go ahead with it.”

Decide after having considered all other alternatives.

“Although a hair transplant is a great way to tackle the problem of hair loss, it is a permanent procedure. If you are unsure, talk to your doctor,” suggests Dr. Linkov.

Dr. Gary Linkov reveals how many of his patients remain unsure of their decision until they talk to him and discuss the alternatives. “A patient should opt for a hair transplantation procedure only after eliminating all other options,” he says.

Finally, talk to your doctor to clear all doubts before the surgery.

This is the most critical aspect to consider. “Prepare yourself to have a frank and detailed discussion with your doctor,” says Dr. Gary Linkov. “A hair transplantation may bring about a cosmetic change, but it is nevertheless a medical procedure. In addition to your research, ask your doctors any questions about the success rate, overall budget, details of the surgery, precautions to be taken, risks involved, and any other questions you may have. Make the final call only after being fully informed.” As Dr. Gary Linkov points out, a great doctor will always take the time to answer every question in detail so that the patient is confident about the procedure before going into surgery.

A hair transplant brings about a remarkable, confidence-boosting change in people’s lives. And this list from Dr. Gary Linkov will help you prepare for it well in advance.
