In all, over three score of Nigerians were mercilessly killed in the course of the last general election conducted through out the country.
Some were killed while in the line of duty and others where killed for no justifiable reason. The chain of killings continued even after the elections were postponed The aftermath was the violence that erupted. None of these killings that was not perpetrated with fire- arm loaded with bullets.
In other reported situations, locally made explosives were freely deployed to further increase the sorrow of the people. In the Bible , Genesis 1:26-27 says
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” It should be noted that it took God one thousand years to create man, because according to the Bible,” one day is like a thousand years before God” in order words, on the sixth day of creation, it was man that was created.
However in Psalm 90 vs 4 “ For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.”
lt took the Almighty God one thousand years to create man. Which He described as “ wonderfully made”. Unfortunately, mad politicians in Nigeria kill human beings like rams and goats without any remorse.
In fact vehicles and offices belonging to the lndependent National Electoral commission ( lNEC) were not spared in the destruction. After the elections, sane minds are asking the moral question. “Who cleared these politicians?” How come, politicians with dubious tendencies were not identified early enough before they went into the political space to show their true color. How come they were not stopped on their track. Can it be said, that these politicians beat every intelligence organization to their game?. They covered their track, and got the approval to contest the election, and they went a step ahead to recruit thugs and also procured guns for them. Simply explained, there are many loopholes in the system. Loop holes that were not well managed but allowed to become strategies that were capitalised by these criminally minded politicians. They have succeeded in their evil trade, gave the electoral body a bad name, and exposed the country to ridicule in international community.
There are three major ways whereby politicians are screened. Each of these methods have been discovered to be extremely loose for politicians to take advantage to explore and mismanage. One of them is the political party screening that have been found to be extremely corrupted with money. It is on the bases of the highest bidder which has made it impossible for political parties to thoroughly and clinically screen out politicians with dented criminal image from vying for positions in the country. The clearing house which is INEC is also fingered in being complacent in ensuring that criminals and corrupt politicians not given any green card that would eventually warrant their being finally screened by the State security service) SSS). Interestingly, it is the SSS that carries out the final screening which ought to nail politicians with dented image by weeding them out with security reports. Unfortunately, when these SSS security reports get to lNEC, they are corruptly compromised. With the intervention of big wigs in the society, state and federal government and traditional rulers, politicians that have been marked down by SSS as not fit to vie for any political office, are later found in the arena of politics. No wonder, these same political characters soon grow wings by exhibiting their true corrupt characters when they buy votes because they are aware that they don’t have the right character to represent the people. The other set, that were marked down, later exhibit their true color by recruiting thugs and arming them to use violence to manipulate votes in their favour. The violent that erupted during the recent elections into the presidential, Gubernatorial, Senate, National and state Assemblies are frightening pointers to the loop holes created during the screening exercise. It is marveling that lNEC did not mention one politician that the commission screened out and marked down not to participate or vie for any political office. No wonder, politicians know the weaknesses of lNEC and they capitalised on them. That is why many are asking,” who cleared these politicians” with evil machination. Was lNEC not aware of their criminal record?, was lNEC unaware that a cultist in the University would definitely not discard his past character and demeanor . Stretching further the argument, one will ask why does the SSS keep mute seeing its security recommendations and reports indicting some of these politicians. In all of these, the country needs to overhaul the requirements of any politician stepping into politics.

His appointment as the Acting lnspector General of Police, surprised book makers. Even notable seers never predicted his appointment. Indeed his appointment was a surprise but was adjudged as the best to have happened to the Nigeria Police. Mr Mohammed Adamu, who is on acting capacity has confounded the few critics of his appointment. Professionally sound,strategically efficient, administratively wonderful. The last elections brought to the fore his ingenuity. On occupying the sensitive office, Adamu overhauled the election security plans of his predecessor Mr ldris lbrahim by rejigging his porous security operational order which was described as very elementary. The functional security electoral strategy later attracted world election observers. The police was roundly applauded for its operational efficiency. Apart from that, officers and men were given a new impetus. This has helped to improve the police for greater height and better situated for better policing. It is based on these initial commendable results that the call for immediate confirmation of his appointment is appropriate. An early confirmation of a leader, helps in strengthening his mental vision of what he wants to achieve. An early confirmation,helps to stabilize the system and its organization.
