Just few weeks after surviving the 18-month- long delay of getting confirmed by the National Assembly, Lanre Gbajabiamila is facing another major threat.

The Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission is said to be facing a fresh plot to unseat him.

Not that the dude is not delivering on his mandate as the regulator of the gaming business in Nigeria but it was learnt that he has stepped on the toes of some powerful forces within the corporate world who felt his action is hurting their businesses.

Gbajabiamila was said to have incurred the wrath of this group after his commission sealed off briefly the premises of a giant brewery company for conducting promotional lotteries valued at about N1.3 billion and failed to regularise such promo lotteries as required by law, thereby denying the Federal Government of over N326 million revenue.

Upon this, the company’s management continued to rebuff attempts by the Commission to get it to comply. It was gathered that Gbajabiamila’s action sparked off a wave of chain reaction that is threatening his seat.

The plot against him is said to have gone as high as to the Presidency with allegations that the Lottery Commission boss is making nonsense of the Federal Government’s laudable policy on ease of doing business in Nigeria.

Gbajabiamila, a California State University alumnus, for nearly a decade was the CEO of Lagos State Lotteries Board and he recorded a great feat which further recommended him for the higher position at the federal level.

While he scaled through the Senate hurdle, how he’s going to handle this new forces already ganging up against him remains to be seen.
