On Sunday, February 5, Nigerian Women Achievers Award, NWAA hosted reputable women to its sixth edition of celebrating women who, against all odds are doing great things in their different careers.

Among the women who were honoured is, Ifeoma Ononye, a journalist with 15 years experience in the media. She was recognised as Distinguished media personality of the year 2022.

Ifeoma Ononye has been a journalist for 15 years, starting her reporting career as a volunteer at National Youth service corps, Eko Kopa Newsletter. She received a commendation certificate from NYSC Lagos state for remarkable contributions during her service year and for her contribution to the growth of the Newsletter for 2007/2008 service yea.

 Her journalism career picked up in full swing after her youth service as a staff reporter at Independent Newspapers limited from 2008 to 2019. At the independent Newspapers limited, Ifeoma won the best editorial staff in 2010 at the Independent newspaper’s 10th anniversary. In 2019 she joined the Daily Telegraph newspapers as a correspondent where she still works till date.

 The Anambra State Indigene, who is happily married with three children has a passion for promoting inspiring women, encouraging young people to be better version of themselves. A fitness enthusiast and She strives to make a difference where children health is concerned.

Other women who were honoured were, The CEO of Diffuser Nigeria, Hon. Dr. Bunmi Obakoya recieved the Award of Excellence in Business practices and humanitarian service. Dr Layla Ali Othman, the CEO of L&N Kitchen, Superb L&N Interiors and ALMAT Farms got the Distinguished Entrepreneur Of The Year award. Nollywood actress, Chinonso Arubayi was honoured as Distinguished Actress of the year.

Humanitarian Personality Of the Year award went to Fatima Aminu (Zara Unscripted) for her foundation’s care for the physically challenged.

The Director of Nursing Services, Lagos state Health Service Commission, Mrs Cole Adebukola Oluwabusayo was also honoured in the award for health care sector, among others.

Speaking about the award, the founder and organiser of Nigeria Women Achievers Award, NWAA, Joy Gloria Osusu stated that the award is not only about women who have made it or about the big names in different careers, but for women striving hard amidst our economy yet they keep pressing. 

“These are our heroines of today and are worthy of emulation hence we celebrating them also and to inspire them to keep up the good work,” she said.
