Ekpe Peter Unuajohwofia, popularly known as ‘Demgohearword’ is one of the fastest growing Nigerian comedian, media activist, online promoter and social media influencer.
Born to Palmer and Justine Unuajohwofia family in Ethiope-east Okpara, Delta State Nigeria; he is the 13th of 16 children. He is a graduate of Houdegbe North America University where he earned a B.Sc. in Political Science.
In a chat, while describing his brand of comedy which is one out of a few of what he does for a living, the fast growing comic said; “In a world where grit, wit and a large dose of sarcasm is needed to mentally challenge people into understanding that sensitive, important issues exist through satire and a comedic spin-off, I’m putting a totally different spin on things with the intense use of Warri English also known as wafi; with gesticulations that ensure you listen, pay attention and laugh, yet still completely moved into assimilating the importance of thought provoking action towards change, not just as a unit, or an organization but the country as a whole.”
Peter who has overtime exploited the social media to call out, chastise persons within the corridors of power explained why he has been doing so. He said; “I take the pain to call out these politicians because I’m fighting for my own future and the future or my kids and Nigerians. In the society we are today, everyone is scared to speak out the truth even when the coast is clear.”
He added that though he has been receiving death threats, it won’t stop him from lending his voice for societal change. “I have received several treat and hate comments from Nigerians and politicians as well but honestly I have lost my fears 17 years ago as a black son of Africa. Do one thing every day that scares you because everything you want is on the other side of fear. I firmly believe that being born into a large family helps build your courage and ability to speak up and be heard especially when already surrounded by a sea of louder and more prominent voices. You talk you die, you keep quiet you will still die so why don’t just talk and die”, he said.
Speaking further, he noted that the unlike some persons who were scared to air their view when President Buhari was advised to resign for fear of being arrested by the Department Of State Security Service, just like Sowore and Agba Jalingo, he wasn’t, because he strongly believes they are saddled with the responsibility of defending Nigerians against domestic threats and not to oppress innocent citizens who express their freedom of speech.
He said; “The function of the DSS is to protect and defend the Federal Republic of Nigeria against domestic threats, to uphold and enforce the criminal laws of Nigeria, to provide leadership and criminal justice services to both federal and state law-enforcement organs; not to come after a citizen who speaks the truth, or telling the president the truth.”
