The Minister of Justice & Attorney General of the Federation, Alhaji Abubakar Malami, has opened up on the reasons why the Musical Collection Society of Nigeria (MCSN) was approved.
Malami made the revelation when he received a delegation of the Board and members of the newly approved collecting society in his office recently.
According to him, the era of monopoly as a government economic policy is gone for good. “Thank you for coming. However I will advise you to go about your business. You have the support of the government. Monopoly as an economic policy is gone for good. The decision to license your organisation is in the best interest of the nation and in accordance with international best practices,” he said.
MCSN’s chairman, Orits Wiliki, thanked the Minister for the approval, which he said would open up the copyright sector and also lauded him for his resolution of the crisis that has lasted for over two decades.
