From Desmond Mgboh, Kano
KANO State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has revealed that the boards of the 37 Micro Finance Banks (MBFs) in the state were dissolved due to mismanagement.
Speaking during the inauguration of the reconstituted boards of the MBFs in the state, recently the governor disclosed that, “the boards of the banks were dissolved and replaced with new ones to give them a new lease of life.”
He added that, “the banks were virtually dead when we came in and their money was stolen. The banks were disorganised and we had to reorganise them to enable them perform up to expectation.”
Ganduje disclosed that the state anti-corruption agency has been directed to focus its searchlight on the banks so that anyone found misappropriating funds there would face the full wrath of the law.
He directed local government councils in the state to patronise the MFBs, especially by depositing their revenue funds in them, adding that the state government would also help them to become vibrant by carrying out its empowerment programmes through them.
