■ Renames Law Complex after Graham Douglas

THE Rivers State Governor and visitor to the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nyesom Wike, has donated the sum of N1 billion for the reconstruction of the two abandoned Faculties of Management and Environmental Sciences.
The governor also renamed the Faculty of Law Complex after the first indigenous Attorney-General of Nigeria, Dr. Nabo Graham- Douglas.
Governor Wike stated this yesterday at the 28th convocation ceremony of the state university in Port Harcourt, and pledged his administration’s commitment to support the growth of the institution. “As a government, be assured that we will not fail in the commitment to support the university,” Wike told the ecstatic audience.
He also laid the foundation stone of the College of Medical Sciences to further buttress the commitment of the state government towards quality education.
In an address, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Blessing Didia, noted that the new vision of the institution was to establish an entrepreneurial university through technology.
“Our vision as an administration is anchored on creating an entrepreneurial university that will consolidate on the gains so far,” he said.
Prof. Didia stressed that his administration was poised to run the university on the basis of global best practices in order to reposition the institution for national relevance and global competitiveness.
He commended Governor Wike for his support to the institution and the opportunity to serve the state, disclosing that measures had been taken to reverse the deplorable condition of the institution.
The vice-chancellor congratulated the new graduates and urged them to be good ambassadors. “I advise you to go into the world with the same zeal and be good ambassadors of the university in whatever vocation you may find yourself,” he admonished.
A total number of 5,067 graduates were awarded first degrees, postgraduate diplomas, masters and doctorate degrees.
