From Tony John, Port Harcourt

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has again apologized to the former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, for politically fighting him when he was the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Wike also stated that he fought the Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi, politically and caused him sleeplessness.

He stated his at an event where notable Nigerians were honoured by the Rivers State government held at the Government House, Port Harcourt, yesterday.

The Rivers governor said that he fought the politicians to a standstill for the interest of  his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike said: “I fought Umahi to the last. This Umahi, he knows. He never slept. But, I don’t know how God is still helping him.

“Oshiobaba, both of you remember, I was the one who fought Oshiomhole. I fought him. He is here. I fought you. I fought you.  Sorry.

“You know, until you know, until you get total facts, but, you get information that you have never had before, Oshiobaba, sorry.

“But, I did it for the interest of my party (PDP).”

He commended the South-south National Vice Chairman of the PDP,

Dan Orbih, for being “straight forward, firm in his decision not allow his ‘master’ to be killed.”

The governor reiterated that he is in the last lap of his administration and approaching his exit, saying “so, for me, I am going. I am already gone.”

Wike said that in Nigeria, there are numerous associations, and it appears that without being a former this or that, one would not be relevant.

He, therefore, vowed that after his exit,  he would not belong to the categories identified by being a member of association of  any former group.

“Nigeria is the only country where you have  association of former member, association of former chief of staff, association of former governors, association of former councillors. I have never seen a country like this.

“The only way you are relevant is when you are a member of former something. I would not do that. I would come here and serve my God. That is all I would do.

“So, I thank all of you for coming. My colleagues, God will continue to bless all of you. Former governors, apart from Fayose, the only governor, who defeated an incumbent governor, but, who does not respect we, the elders,” he said.

Among the recipients were Prof. Jerry Gana, Desmond Akawor, Felix Obuah, Mike Ozokhome, Dan Orbih, Senators Magnus Abe,  Barry Mpigi and Olaka Nworgu, Ledum Mitee and the G-5 Governors.
